This spearmint and peppermint tasting non abrasive formula has as its principal ingredient 100% Stabilised Aloe Vera Gel, to which is added bee propolis for its natural antibiotic action. Stabilised Aloe Vera has been proven in laboratory testing to inhibit and kill the bacteria known to cause plaque and its anti-inflammatory qualities provide many benefits for the gums and the delicate inner lining of the mouth.

The product also contains Chlorophyll-Copper Complex, with the chlorophyll content extracted from natural plant sources. This combination of ingredients gives a preparation with good antibacterial properties, to not only fight plaque and keep the breath fresh but also to clean, nourish and strengthen teeth and gums.

There appears to be a growing preference amongst consumers for gel products over pastes and an independent dental laboratory declared the product to have an abrasiveness so low as to be a polishing gel. My experience has been that after using one or two tubes of Forever Bright Toothgel, most people are reluctant to use other brands.

Forever Bright Toothgel does not contain fluoride, which would in any event interfere with the enzymes in aloe vera.

The potential risks and long-term effects on people's health associated with fluoride were first brought to the author's attention in 1982, since which time he has read extensively on the subject.

Fears have been expressed in a number of quarters that fluoride may well cause dental fluorosis (brown staining and pitting of teeth), skeletal fluorosis (internal changes and weakening of bones), as well as non-skeletal problems, such as gastro-intestinal tract mucosa damage (the lining of the stomach and intestine). Isolated studies and anecdotal evidence also indicates that exposure to fluoride may be linked to arthritis, thyroid problems, bone cancers and hip fractures.

There is growing debate about long-term safety issues involved with the inclusion of fluoride as an ingredient in tooth cleaning products. The dental profession have been keen for fluoride to be included to reduce dental caries in young children but sodium fluoride, a waste product from the nuclear, fertilizer and aluminium processing industries, has a toxicity between that of lead and arsenic and under European Union rulings, ranks as a dangerous substance which should not be permitted to enter the environment.

Forever Bright ToothgelForever Bright Toothgel was ranked by Readers Digest readers as an outstanding brand 'Superbrand' in 1999 and UK dentist Richard Sudworth declared, "I consider that use of the gel is oneof the most successful and constructive adjuncts that patients can follow in their own home dental care programme. The results thatI see are good."

Dr. Albert Schatz, the discoverer of streptomycin, stated as long ago as 1993 that artificial fluoridation "may well dwarf the thalidomide tragedy", while as recently as May of this year, the much respected British newspaper The Times, in an article entitled Fluoride Is Good For Teeth But It Can Also Be Harmful, reported that 'A government commissioned study has revealed that 48 per cent of children who drink fluoridated water show signs of fluorosis.'

It also quotes Tony Lees, a UK dentist for 40 years, who they report as believing that 'fluoride should be banned from toothpastes and that the marginal benefit it displays for teeth does not outweigh its general dangers.' He says, "Dental fluorosis is not just a cosmetic problem, but the visible sign of chronic fluoride poisoning, and children are more vulnerable than adults."
